AT A GLANCE
Veena Krishnakumar
Area of Practice:
OVERVIEW
Veena is an interdisciplinary artist and educator born and raised in Chennai, India. She moved to the US in 2010, where she has lived, studied and practiced art. She moved back to India in 2016 and has been a teaching faculty at SMI and practicing art in Bangalore. Her deep interest in social justice and her empathy towards fellow humans and other life forms around her, has always been the sprouting ground for all her art projects. She has led community based projects and collaborated with marginalised communities in India and in the US. She is interested in connecting with the world beyond humans – constantly discovering new ways of observing, engaging and creating within the non-human contexts. She likes to bring out the complexities and interconnectedness, and finding meanings and metaphors through art works, journaling and storytelling. She highly values her process oriented studio practice, where she fluidly traverses between different contexts, research methodologies and artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, hand paper making, book making, photography, graphic design, performance, with an overarching interest in anthropology, natural history, materiality and abjection.
