OVERVIEW
Prachi Mehrotra is a Textile design practitioner and educator fascinated about the second skin we wear, touch and feel every day. Prachi has a good understanding of endangered, traditional, contemporary and emerging textiles practices, global trends and sustainability issues in the fashion and textiles design industry. Prachi has around 2 decades of diverse, hands-on design experience in industry and academics of which 17 years have been spent as a practicing academician in India. She is actively involved in teaching and mentoring with various postgraduate & graduate design programs in India. She has presented in various national and global design conferences and organized design workshops in various forums.
Collaborative Design Projects and Social work
As a distinguished design professional she also functioned as a Jury Member of the Zonal Level Selection Committee for National and Sant Kabir Awards conferred by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and as a Member of Advisory Committee meeting for Handlooms to actively contribute to the society. She was instrumental in collaborative design projects with India Vision foundation (IVF) by Kiran Bedi, Delhi Council of Handicrafts (DCHC), The International Wool Secretariat (IWS), National Centre for Textile Design, India (NCTD).
EDUCATION
1 ) Pursuing Ph.D. at Manipal University, India through Srishti Manipal Institute of Art ,Design and Technology
2) Master’s (Design), from National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Bridging course for Master’s Design completed in (2009-2010) from NIFT, New Delhi.
3) PG -Textile Design and Development (2003), from NIFT, Kolkata.
• Awarded for the best use of printing skills for 2002-03 by NIFT, Kolkata.
4) B.H.S.C (Honours) Textiles and clothing (98-01) from Lady Irwin College, Delhi University;
• Received RASHMI PALIWAL AWARD for securing Ist Position in B.H.S.C (Textiles & clothing-honours) Lady Irwin College, New Delhi. CERTIFICATIONS
• Post Graduate certification in Higher education (PGCHE programme) –Completed in 2008 with distinction, NTU, UK
• Completed Bullet Proof Manager -UDAAN sessions (2014-15) at Pearl by CRESTCOM INTERNATIONAL(management and leadership training) Knowledge up gradation through online courses by LNPS

WORK EXPERIENCE
A From July 2017 onwards- Prachi is presently working as a Faculty and Head of Studies, Industrial Arts and Product Design Practices with Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Bengaluru, India.
B May 2006-May 2017 – She was working as an Associate professor in the School of Fashion and Textiles at Pearl Academy, Naraina and was also part of the core management team as Course Leader of Master’s Design (Fashion n Textiles) Programme for 2 years
C August 2004-April 2006 -Some of her outstanding industry achievements while working with LNJ Bhilwara Group, Noida were design development of specialised automotive fabrics where her designs were selected for various brands like Maruti (Primea, Zen Estilo, SX4), Honda (City ZX, Vtec) and HM (Lancer) among others.
D June-August 2004 -Designing assignments had been executed for corporate clients as well as business firms like Surya Ethnic, Gurgaon; Gilopa & Mod Knits, Gurgaon etc.
E April 2003-Feb 2004- She started her career as a Textile Designer at Mittal International, Panipat.
INTEREST AREAS
Prachi is deeply interested in natural dyeing, constructed textiles and bio-design practices.
Her research is an inquiry into the bicolour practices for fashion and textiles application. Prachi explores colour and design applications with plant based as well as microbial bio-colourants.

CREATIVE PRACTICE & OUTREACH
Throughout a span of around 2 decades Prachi’s professional practice and design research, as a designer and educator spreads across a multitude of sustainable textile design, trend-forecasting and product development areas encompassing constructed textiles, natural colour applications, dyeing techniques and innovative fabric development. Her practice demonstrates good knowledge of design & manufacturing processes within the home textiles, automotives and garment industry. She believe that education is an art and thus engage deeply with the process of teaching and learning.
