AT A GLANCE

Ninad Koranne

Area of Practice:

OVERVIEW

Trained as an architect, he has varied experience for more than 18 years in the field of Architecture, Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Urban Development. He has been part of design & build, research & consultancy projects that promoted energy conscious designs, ecologically responsible site management. As a professional, he has been involved in working on development of the green building rating system, facilitating green building certifications & performing energy & daylight analysis at an early design stage for the built environment. Presently, he is a full-time faculty and head of studies for the Public Space Design program at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology at MAHE Bangalore campus. As a spatial design faculty and member of LeNS (Learning Network on Sustainability) lab, he engages with contexts focusing on bioclimatic & ecological designs, design of healthy & active spaces, sustainable systems & services, exploring community-driven participatory design processes, etc.

INTEREST AREAS

Primary interest in bioclimatic & ecological design of built environment, systems and services towards sustainable development, etc.; also interested in studying built & cultural landscapes, everyday public spaces and exploring community driven participatory design processes

CURRENT PRACTICE AT SRISHTI

As a spatial design faculty and member of LeNS (Learning Network on Sustainability) lab, the teaching practice at Srishti focuses on engaging and exploring the physical contexts and design topics at the intersection of spatial design and ecology, climate change, healthy & active spaces, sustainable systems & services, exploring community-driven participatory design processes, etc. He enjoys facilitating studios that attempt to engage and encourage the participants to observe, understand, and analyse the perceptional qualities and user behaviour inside the spaces and public realms.

TEACHING PORTFOLIO

1- Field visits- Context specific exploration, immersion into and sensitisation to the built & cultural landscapes.
2- Narrating Spaces- student explorations towards constructing conceptual & immersive spatial experiences & emotions.
3- Model Making as tool & method to observe, understand and expand spatial understanding.
4- Student work to demonstrate spatial design concepts and communication to facilitate transit spaces as alternate learning spaces.
5- Student works of spatial design ideas for Livelihood centres, rooted in local climate and cultural context that as catalyst for social change for a chosen craft community.

CREATIVE PRACTICE & OUTREACH

Being part of multi-disciplinary design firm and worked on multi-scale projects, the professional practice essentially focuses on consulting & analysing the built environment. It concentrates mainly at an early design analysis towards creating energy conscious & high-performance buildings, facilitating green building certifications & performing building technical analysis in terms of energy & daylight simulations etc.
