OVERVIEW

Naini is a visual artist, an educator and a researcher. She has grown up alongside the sea amidst a bio-diverse environment. In her art practice, she uses materials from the earth to bring forth its strength and fragility. In her teaching, she tries to foster the same enthusiasm that she has for art and nature.

EDUCATION

She has a PhD in Exact Humanities with a focus on the theory and practice of Photography from CEH, IIIT-H, Hyderabad, an MVA in Printmaking from M.S.U of Baroda, Gujarat and a BFA in Painting from Goa College of Arts, Goa.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Presently, she is a faculty member at SMI. She was a Lecturer at IIIT-H, Hyderabad, where she taught courses in the theory and practice of Visual arts.
She has exhibited in India and abroad and attended various artist residencies at national and international art institutions.

INTEREST AREAS

Her research areas are Indian aesthetics, feminist aesthetics, philosophy, and methods of image-making in drawing, painting, printmaking, paper making, yarn, and fabric.

CURRENT PRACTICE AT SRISHTI

She is a course leader for the Contemporary Art Practice and teaches the theory and practice of visual arts across undergraduate programs.

TEACHING PORTFOLIO

CREATIVE PRACTICE & OUTREACH

Her art practice explores human resilience in the face of disruptions like migration, climate change, and loss. She experiments with different media and combines drawing, woodcut, painting, and natural materials. She had a solo exhibition titled ‘The Y script for non-persons’ at Goethe Zentrum, Hyderabad, in 2019.
