OVERVIEW
M S Prakash Babu is an Indian film director, screenwriter and visual artist, known for his work in the Kannada feature film Attihannu mattu Kanaja” (Fig Fruit and The Wasps) which has been officially selected in the Competition and nominated for ‘Tiantan Award’ 2015, 5th Beijing International Film Festival, Completed Post-graduation Diploma in Visual artist from renowned Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, West-Bengal, India. He worked as an illustrator and Graphic designer in Indian National Newspaper The Times of India for more than 17 years. He was awarded the 1994 Bendre-Husain Fellowship for outstanding artists, in Mumbai. 1995 Karnataka State Lalitkala Academy award, 2001-2002 awarded a Fellowship in the field of Visual Art (Film/ Video) in Helsinki, Finland, under the UNESCO-ASCHBERG. 2014, 7th Bengaluru International Film Festival Asian Competition section. Awarded NETPAC Jury special mention. 2019 Karnataka State Award for Book Cover Design, Karnataka Kannada Abhiruddi Pradhikaara. He has written and directed short films, and documentaries, and Attihannu Mattu Kanaja (Fig Fruit and The Wasps) 2014 is his first full-length feature film, co-produced by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Produced by Bhavani Prakash under the banner of Bayalu Chitra Productions, it had been selected for the Work in Progress Lab, NFDC Film Bazaar, 2013, International Film Festival of India, Goa. 5th Beijing International Film Festival, officially selected in the Competition, nominated for “Tiantan Award‟ 2015 16th Mumbai Film Festival 2014, India GOLD Competition section. 7th Bengaluru International Film Festival 2014, Asian Competition section. Awarded NETPAC Jury special mention. Dhaka International Film Festival, officially selected for Asian competition section, 2016 Calgary International Film Festival, Canada 2015, Nominated for Discover award. 16th edition of the ASIATICA, Encounters with Asian Cinema. His new film project “Nigoodha Manushyaru” (Mysterious Men) has been selected for Co-production Market, NFDC Film Bazaar 2015, Goa.
EDUCATION
Post-graduation Diploma in Visual art, Viswa-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. 1989-90 worked as a fellow at Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmadabad. 1995 Participated in Film Appreciation course, FTII, Pune.
WORK EXPERIENCE
1989 – Joined as an Illustrator, Bio-Visual products, Hyderabad.
1993-94 – Worked as a textile designer at Himatsingka Seide Ltd.
1995-97 – worked as an Illustrator and Designer, at Electronics for You, a Monthly magazine, in New Delhi. Worked as a cover page designer for Indian Literature, New Delhi.
1997 – Joined as an Illustrator and graphic designer for an Indian daily The Times of India, Bangalore for 17 years.
2014 – Worked as a visiting faculty at RV College of Architecture, Bengaluru.
2015 – Joined as an associate professor, Department of Graphic Design, Acharya School of Design, Acharya Group of Institutions, Bengaluru in 2015.
2017 – Joined Srishti as faculty
INTEREST AREAS
Film direction, screenwriting and visual art and Photography, writing articles on Art, Cinema and Literature in both Kannada and English language for newspapers and magazines. Writing poetry in Kannada.
