SMI CREATIVE PEER

A PEER PROGRAM FOR EMERGING ARTISTS, DESIGNERS, RESEARCHERS AND CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS WHO WANT TO LOCATE THEIR PRACTICE WITHIN A DYNAMIC
COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS.

WHAT IS THE SMI CREATIVE PEER PROGRAM

The Srishti Manipal Institute (SMI) Creative Peer Program is a semester-long fellowship for emerging creative practitioners who want to develop their practice at the intersection of learning, making and facilitating the same for others. As a Creative Peer, you engage with studios, workshops and collaborative spaces while developing your own project within a vibrant learning environment. You become part of an evolving community where practice and pedagogy actively shape one another.

WHAT DO I DO IN THE PEER PROGRAM

The fellowship is designed to support you to develop your practice through multiple forms of engagement:

Project Development

Use SMI’s studios, labs and campus resources to explore ideas, prototype work or deepen research in an environment that values experimentation and discovery.

Facilitating Creativity

Engage with learners through studios and workshops as a way of reflecting on your methods, articulating your thinking and expanding your creative enquiry. Learning becomes a two-way process that influences your own practice.

Interdisciplinary Exchange

Collaborate with faculty and peers through open studios and practice-sharing sessions that expose you to new perspectives and ways of working.

Public Engagement

Conclude the semester with a public presentation and a publication that documents your process-helping you shape a clear professional voice and strengthen your portfolio.

A Creative Learning Network

Join a community where practitioners, educators and learners continuously influence one another, creating relationships that often extend beyond the fellowship itself.

WHY SMI

For over 30 years, SMI has nurtured experimental creative practices and innovative approaches to education. Many of its graduates and collaborators move fluidly between creative practice and pedagogy-shaping new ways of learning and making. SMI is one of the few institutions in India that actively experiments with creative pedagogy as a practice, viewing learning itself as a core skill for future creative practitioners.

By temporarily locating your practice in a creative institution of learning you give yourself an opportunity to pause, learn and grow. SMI will host a project that you want to develop over the course of a semester (3 months). With state of the art studios and makers spaces peppered across the campus, you can ideate, conceptualise and prototype around a diverse range of media.

Campus studios include:
Metal Workshop, Wood Workshop, Fabrication Lab, Weaving Studio, Dyeing & Textile Printing Lab, Natural Fibres Lab, Sewing Lab, Earth Lab, Clay &, Plaster Studio, Garden Studio, Screen Printing & Book Making Studio, Letterpress Studio, Printmaking Studio, Photography Studio, Sound Studio , AR/VR Lab, Stop Motion Studio, Film Shooting Studio
