Area of Practice:

OVERVIEW

I am obsessed with making different kind of textile products, new advance garments
or outer garments and even more obsessed with perfect finished products. My
interest in garments and creating new designs and choosing the right fabric has
been my passion since childhood. I have been creating my own garments and
selecting fabrics since childhood. I love to travel and enjoy photography too. I enjoy
seeing them and always get inspiration from these pictures.

My specialty in dress making which includes flat pattern drafting, draping, making
patterns with industrial standards and love seeking to explore new advance skills
which makes me more confident in my work. Through the years of experience in
teaching, there has been enormous learning in the field of designing of garments. I
have handled part of world skills for student selection process, created unit/ teaching
plans, where the students have achieved perfect fit garments on the dummy and this
process helped them build their confidence levels to create garments. Designed
unit plans in such a way that the students will be making real projects with industry
standards, which would help the students gain confidence before entre to the
industrial real project.
As part of the activity, I have handled resource department, where I have
gained knowledge on sourcing materials from different countries through agencies.
How to create quotations for the industry and how to present to the college. Been an
active partner in Risk, Health and Safety team for the institution, I have also worked
as a RHS coordinator for earlier job profile, this knowledge of safety for sewing
workshops and computer labs was essential and part of the institutional safety
standards. Also attended various outdoor workshops with the RHS teams and it has
helped to spread awareness among the students by doing mock drills, road safety
signs with an orientation program every 6months and through exhibitions.
I have joined Srishti Manipal Institute five years back . I was worked with Srishti
during 2002–2004 back then and joined back again in 2019.

INTEREST AREAS

Designing garments has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
Growing up with supportive parents and always getting support from school for
Through drawing practice, I developed a deep affection for pursuing a career in design
field.
My interest in drawing conservation began in childhood, when I spent many hours on
memory drawing, then I would think about different garments according to pictures.
During a high school class, I learned about different technical skills, which helped me
perusing my design education. This knowledge motivated me to take Fashion
Design.
My interest in academics for almost the past 23 years. I love to do new patterns for
innovative designs and pattern drafting units every time, and I like to take on new
challenges with new designs. Similarly, I love to do draping and surface decoration,
which gives me new experiences every time. I love my work and passion towards
making advanced and innovative garments and textile products.

CURRENT PRACTICE AT SRISHTI

I am an old employee of Srishti from 2000–2004. I got an opportunity to rejoin again after 15 years at a leading design institute, Srishti Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore. Joined as Head of Studies for Bvoc. Textiles, Apparel and Made-Ups. I was part of setting up the syllabus under the guidance of senior faculty and suggestions were given by the industry experience team. In my role, I monitor the sewing lab, maintain the updates, and record on a day-to- day basis. My specialization allows me to manage and engage students during units. Handling and planning whole year budget and supporting students during their units, counselling and guiding them for their future/present projects. Monitoring other disciplined students as a mentor, this role would be giving academic support and solving their issues by talking to them. My academic practice also includes planning whole year faculty allotment, partial admin work, inventory order update and follow up, handling sewing lab, and taking care of the students who ever come to learn from scratch. I have been teaching in Bvoc as well as Bdes IADP for 2 years & 3year. Every year I have taken part in Interim with Artist, where you learn outside of the box.

CREATIVE PRACTICE & OUTREACH

As a fashion designer with over two decades of experience, My practice has been focused
on personal business and academics. My journey started in this field immediately after my
education and have extensive experience working with students over the years. I had
conducted a few exhibitions and had my own business for a few years.
I have been practicing and teaching pattern drafting, draping, and garment construction for
two decades. I am very happy that I get along with the students and prepare them for their
work with fresh youngsters, and love teaching them technical skills, and making real
garments from the prototype to the final product. Love to learn so many things from them
too.
Over the years, I have learned and taught this process, from Indian standards to international
industry standards. I learned how to handle repair and, to some extent, know how to fix sewing
machine. I worked abroad as a fashion lecturer in the same subject for 7 years and learned
a lot many things, like handling store inventory for 5 years, being Coordinator for health and
safety, and conducting mock drills as per schedules, Worked as part of world skills for three
years, monitoring students' work and in the selection team. Through years of practicing in
academics, gained experience in creating syllabus. Making products gives you tremendous
energy for your thinking process and imagination till your product arrives as per the
specification sheet. My career has given me a lot of learnings and connections from different
communities connections, learning the Kannada language, and understanding Telegu to
work with communities. This helps me a lot in the local industry and in my day-to-day life as
