Kumkum Nadig

OVERVIEW
An educator, art director, graphic designer with over 30 years of professional and over 20 years of academic experience, Kumkum’s work draws from her a multi-disciplinary background spanning Architecture, Industrial Design and Graphic Design.
Having worked in USA, The Netherlands, and Canada as a young professional and educator, Kumkum joined Srishti in 2003 and has since been responsible for planning and setting up of the curriculum for Visual Communication Design Course at UG and PG levels as well as updating / revitalizing the curriculum each year through a rigorous practice of evaluation and recontextualization of the students’ learning process. As the dean and senior faculty of the program, Kumkum has facilitated studios, workshops, Thesis Projects, and Capstone across different levels and courses.
Her social and community outreach includes conducting workshops for students of other art and design schools/forums in India, such as NID, CEDT at IISC, Design Yatra, and Typoday, and in Germany at the Merz Akademie, Stuttgart. Kumkum has also been invited to be a jury member by IDC, IIT, Bombay and ASPaC, Tokyo.
At present Kumkum’s interests lie in exploring and documenting vernacular Indian Typographic communication forms, and, exploring the intersection between art, design, history & culture. Kumkum is also passionate about mixed media prints and likes to experiment with combining and integrating digital as well as traditional printmaking practices.

Over 35 years of work experience in Graphic Design in India, USA, The Netherlands. One year of teaching experience in Canada. 22 years of teaching and academic leadership at Srishti.
INTEREST AREAS
History and evolution of Indian visual design, Printmaking, Typography as a means of unpacking visual culture. I am also passionate about mixed media prints and likes to experiment
with combining and integrating digital as well as traditional printmaking practices.
