CURRENT PRACTICE AT SRISHTI
Devan’s approach to teaching is characterized by his commitment to innovation, cultural sensitivity, and a holistic perspective on design thinking through areas like Publication Design, Graphic Design, Information design and design theory. Central to his educational philosophy is a nuanced understanding of the complexities of graphic design. He encourages students to engage critically with graphic forms, including symbols and typefaces, by contextualizing their design choices within broader cultural and historical frameworks. TEACHING PORTFOLIO
In his pedagogical practice, Devan has taught at NIFT, Mcgans Ooty School of Architecture, MITID Pune and Indian Institute of Art and Design – New Delhi. He places great emphasis on design as a potent tool for cultural preservation and social transformation
CREATIVE PRACTICE & OUTREACH
Devan has worked in a gamut of design scenarios – as print designer, Art editor for publications such as Dorling Kindersley, Roli books. Product designer and illustrator for the metal crafting studio – Michael Aram, Creative Art director for the co working company – Workafella. He is particularly passionate about safeguarding the wisdom embedded in Indian and African folk traditions, often incorporating these rich cultural narratives into his teaching and practice. His pedagogical methods are designed to foster a deep understanding of the symbiotic relationship between traditional knowledge systems and contemporary design practices.
