Arnab Basu

OVERVIEW
Arnab Basu is a Bangalore based visual and performance artist, who works in the area of environmental art, site-based art, ephemeral media and community engagement. He has a Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts, specialising in Sculpture from Kala Bhavana, Visvabharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. He is also a National scholarship holder from the Ministry of Culture, Indian Government in the field of Sculpture.
Arnab has participated in various workshops, art camps and symposiums. Arnab’s works have been showcased in exhibitions, both in India and abroad. Although a major body of his works are site specific and ephemeral in nature, some of Arnab’s works can also bee seen in private collections.
Arnab has had formal training and performed in various parts of India as a dancer, musician as well as a member of the professional theatre group ’Sahityika’. He has conducted many theatre workshops and worked on Scenography Design in Santiniketan, Kolkata, IIT Kanpur and Bangalore.
Prior to joining SMI, Arnab worked at ‘Sloka’ The Hyderabad Waldorf School, as a visual art, theatre, and movement faculty, where he collaborated with child psychologists in developing and conducting movement workshops/sessions for children with special needs.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology – 2020 to present, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology – 2011 to 2020, Sloka The Hyderabad Waldorf School – 2010 to 2011, Lead workshops for both school (Patha-Bhavan) and college (Kala-Bhavana) students from 2003 to 2011.
INTEREST AREAS
Alternate education systems, visual and performance art, scenography, environmental art, exploring the intersections between sculptural practice, spatial design, food and community led making. Design principles such as ecological design and conservation.

Arnab works on personal art projects and uses the art making process as a tool for the students to engage with and build an environment of community centric studio based practice.
Arnab curates workshops and other such happenings around Art & Design practices to engage with the general public and give them a sense of how creative practitioners work and how creative practices can be used as tools for generating cultural & social capital.
