Business Services and Systems Design
This course is for curious, creative thinkers who want to reimagine how things work — in society, business, technology, and everyday life.

The innovations expected of the creative fields to contribute to a globally complex and interconnected future have to be imagined with a deep understanding of the changes brought on by technological and environmental shifts to people and cultures worldwide. Building human intelligence to make creative contributions forms the core of the Bachelor of Design program, where people, cultures, environments and technologies are central to the imaginations and visions of our future-forward courses. We nurture future creative professionals by fostering a spirit of radical innovation and experimentation. The program’s courses engage with the power of design to impact various fields, contribute to emerging areas of creative practice and shape the new disciplines of design
This course is for curious, creative thinkers who want to reimagine how things work — in society, business, technology, and everyday life.
The Bachelor of Design in Creative and Applied Computation (CAC) course is open to anyone eager to learn with no prior coding background. It provides students with the design and algorithmic thinking skills needed to develop digital and physical objects that ethically and meaningfully address human needs.
Creative Education is built on a symbiotic relationship with all other disciplines at SMI. Learning is influenced by how a space is designed; it includes the furniture used in the space, the size of the space, where it is located and who it is for. Similarly, visual communication materials such as charts, textbooks, workbooks, and game boards facilitate learning.
The Human-Centered Design (HCD) program at Srishti Manipal Institute delves into a design approach that prioritizes the user’s needs, wants, and limitations. It involves designing systems, services, spaces, and products to facilitate meaningful interactions and experiences between people, designed interactions, and the natural environment.
The Information Arts and Information Design Practices (IAIDP) nurtures reflective learners who enquire into and interpret the world through storytelling. Using tools that record change, be it memories, cultures, personal narratives or vast amounts of data, students are encouraged to explore newer and imaginative ways to construct and craft knowledge, tell stories and responsibly create communication.
The program's vision is to create sensitive, informed professionals of Spatial Design who create living environments that are equitable and inclusive while emphasizing cultural, artistic, and social awareness.
This course is designed to address communication and marketing needs of variety of industry clusters across new as well as traditional mediums, materials, and platforms. Learning fundamental skills, design processes and conceptual thinking takes precedence over learning to use computer applications and software.
In the Industrial Arts and Design Practices course, making becomes a bridge between thought and emotion. Hands-on creation nurtures a deep understanding of design processes, encouraging intuition and sensitivity, which are essential for meaningful design practice.
Artistic practice is a mode of expression to address the most important issues and concerns of our times. The BFA program at SMI nurtures the creative force and artistic curiosity in every individual. It helps discover one’s unique artistic self-expression, individual voice and position to create creative and critical works. The BFA courses draw from the broad knowledge bases of the visual and performing arts, humanities and design and offer a deep immersion in socio-cultural, political, environmental and other contemporary contexts. They offer a space to learn, experiment and acquire fluency in a chosen medium by combining intuition and the self with craft and practice.
The courses offered in this program are Contemporary Art Practice, Digital Media Arts, and Film, all of which are situated in a larger interdisciplinary environment, allowing the student to navigate between disciplines through a choice-based navigation system. The courses nurture a dexterity in the student to embrace the new with a keen eye on the threads of the past and multiple influencing factors. Contemporary Art Practice offers a medium-agnostic approach to art, preparing the student to ask relevant questions in a highly complex contemporary society with rapid changes in technology and culture. Digital Media Arts prepares students to communicate through animation using various digitally manipulated moving image techniques and possibilities. The film program addresses the fundamental tenets of artistic cinematic language within the ubiquity of forms, screens and platforms available today.
