Algorithmic Craft: the Synthesis of Computational Design, Digital Fabrication, and Hand Craft
There is a demand for capable and skilled professionals across the spectrum of emerging creative industries in India. The 3-Year Undergraduate Program at Srishti Manipal comes at a critical and opportune time to bridge this gap between the demand and supply of skilled professionals. The program prepares a creative workforce that meets global standards by introducing structured, skill-based and vocation oriented courses.
The 3-year Undergraduate Program is based on the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) levels 4, 5, 6 and 7. NSQF is a nationally integrated education and competency based skill framework that provides for multiple pathways for students in each discipline.
The program is designed to be industry focused at every stage. It is streamlined and focussed towards developing the professional capability of each student towards being employable. Each of the three years develops the student from a skill based learner at the end of year one to an industry focussed professional at the end of year two to an industry ready professional at the end of year three.
In year one it takes the form of the Industry Exposure - a brief visit to studios, offices, work centres, factories, production units and live working situations in order to orient the students towards a first hand experience of professional life.
In year two the student joins the industry as part of a 12 week apprenticeship program, where they work in discipline specific industrial setups and get their first taste of professional life.
In year three - the students conclude their training with a Capstone project that is also working in a real world industrial context for an entire semester.
So, by the end of 3 years the student not only learns professional and technical skills, but has already worked in the industry twice over and enters professional life with additional experience, affirmation and focus.
This program is unique in how it engages with the industry; not only does it prepare students with a specific focus for a future life in the creative industry, but also includes industry partners in creating a curriculum relevant to industry requirements - bringing the industry into the classroom and vice versa.
“Srishti Manipal is leading by example in Vocational Education space, with its disruptive Design & Build, industry relevant Bachelor of Vocation programs. Young learners get the right start in their careers as these programs are both industry relevant and aligned to National Skills Qualifications Framework as well.
