Overview

The Animation pathway is envisioned to create technically competent individuals with a good understanding of the several processes of pre-production, production and post-production in the 3D animation workflow. The course supports developing an ability to strategically intervene in the mechanisms of the industry, thereby increasing the creative capacity of the animation industry of India. Although importance is given to 3D character work flows, students can choose to develop skills in different aspects of the animation process, and work towards specialized roles. They will also have a broad perspective of the elements of the media and entertainment industry, facilitated by the unique interdisciplinary environment at Srishti Manipal.

What you will learn

In year 1 you will acquire an understanding of the fundamentals of pre-production and planning, with attention to reading script instructions, storyboarding and pre-visualization, character design and treatment. You will also learn to visualize and build environments in 3D. Industry exposure will introduce you to work ethics, work culture and the way specific industry sector works with respect to production pipeline, technologies used, team and collaborative work practices.

In year 2 you will acquire skills in 3D character modelling and animation techniques using industry standard software packages. You will learn to construct characters and make them move. This will involve an understanding of structural and natural elements and ability for technical problem solving. Industry apprenticeship will allow you to put to practice some of your learning in an actual industry environment.

In year 3 you will work in an industry set-up and gain practical skills in a specific role. Through the graduating capstone, you will learn to formulate and execute an animation project, with impetus on one or more of the processes of pre-production, production and post-production. It will help you develop project management skills and work in an area of interest within 3D animation to gain specialized skills.
