The practice of Graphic Design is rich, versatile and exploratory and spans print as well as digital mediums. This pathway develops skill sets that provide creative competencies for a variety of industries from advertising, branding and marketing, to publication design, book making and web design. The pathway develops capabilities across a variety of art and design challenges and aim to create skilled professionals who think through their craft and be ready for filling in the high skill gap in the related skill sectors.

In addition, the course enables learning in visual communication, design thinking through core studios such as typography, publication design, information design, branding & advertising, marketing collateral design, packaging design.

The abilities of our Graphic Design students are desired in numerous industries and sectors – media, entertainment, publishing, marketing, corporations, NGOs, small-scale industries, and education to name a few.

What you will learn

In year 1 you will learn elements of basic design (Type, Colour, Layout, Imaging) and employ principles of Gestalt in creating simple print based communication material that combines text and image. Learning encompasses use of principles of Typography to create compositions and also developing visual sensibility and attention to detail. You will work with text and visuals to create simple and coherent piece of visual communication materials. Develop the ability to use industry standard computer software to visualize, layout, and manipulate text and visual content. You will learn to consider advantages and challenges of various print-making and production techniques. Develop capability to document your projects through a portfolio.

In year 2 you will learn and leverage principles of interaction and interface design for screens. Develop competence in the use and application of various design tools, techniques and processes. You also hone industry level professional ability to design marketing collaterals. Collaborate and participate in the entire process of design, from design brief to print-ready files for a specific industry. You will be able to create print publications as well as digital publications for screens. Develop capability to critically evaluate and document your projects through a portfolio. Towards the end of this year you will work with the industry as an apprentice.

In year 3 you will learn to conceptualize and execute a creative brief of client based projects through proficiency in ideation, visualization, execution, communication and presentation. You will also demonstrate the competencies to be situated in industry and work independently on a wide range of complex visual communication design projects. In the Sixth Semester, you will be required to work in your pathway related industry sector for the final capstone. And, you will have a professional portfolio that documents wide range of graphic design projects for print and screen.
