Design-Led Innovation is the process of translating an idea or invention into a product or service that creates value for the end consumers. Successful Design-Led Innovation involves blending deep customer insight and technical inventiveness to create value for customers, innovative firms and their investors.  Design-Led Innovation is not just “Design Driven” in its traditional sense, but more about “designing for emerging usages and technologies”. Hence, design-led innovation utilizes creative art & design thinking grounded in humanities to push the boundaries of technological, socio-cultural and business aspects of innovation.

If you are person who wants to create unique ground breaking products and services that will significantly impact lives of people, then Design-Led Innovation is right for you.  If you are open minded, have empathy for users & stakeholders, can embrace diversity, and think holistically, then you are suitable to become a design led innovator. Design-Led innovation is right for you if you are interested in working in multi-disciplinary teams, generate new ideas, and develop alternative solutions to make an impact. For masters’ program, you need to have a FOUR+ years of bachelors level education in any discipline.

The vision of this program is to create innovators who will explore and apply the understanding of human behavior, context, business strategy and technology towards creation of innovative and sustainable products and services that have bigger and positive impact. At Srishti, students are coached intensively in interdisciplinary teams by design experts, engineers and entrepreneurs to develop a project into a business proposition.
During the first year of the program, the student will develop capabilities in understanding and unearthing outside-in perspective, empathizing, trends and forecasts, primary and secondary research, future scenarios, creative processes of sketching and modelling, critical thinking, independent learning, and knowing how to use relevant information technology, software, and data for user experience design. These capabilities are imparted through Studios, Workshops, Internship, Self-Initiated Projects and Electives.
During the second year the student will work on various live innovation projects to apply the skills and capabilities to create innovative product & service ideas and business propositions. You will do a project in the final semester as the culmination of the research, capabilities and knowledge gained over the first three semesters.

The graduating students have opportunities to chart their careers not only in the ever-expanding software/hardware industry but also in government, NGOs, & urban and rural development as Strategic Design Innovators. We foresee some students to become successful design entrepreneurs shaping the emerging ecology of start-up companies in India through design driven innovation. The course also sets up the graduating students for pursuing post-graduate education abroad in design research, leading to a career in academic or Research & Development.

As technology pervades everyday life, and things get complex, innovation has moved out of the sole proprietorship of technology and business. Increasingly, business and technology experts have embraced and adopted design as a way for ushering in innovation of greater impact. Particularly, they have adopted the approach designers use to solve problems creatively, called as ‘design thinking’, to drive the innovation process. Many organizations have realized significant increase in their return-on-investment (RoI) by implementing Design Led Innovation principles.
Design-Led Innovation is extremely useful when a organization is stable, wants to grow in new areas or dramatically improve the existing offerings. Design-Led Innovation allows organizations to start down a sustainable path of innovation through a change in mindset (or culture), focus and process. The human centric and iterative nature of Design led Innovation naturally reduces risks in bringing innovation to market. It allows one to innovate by bringing in a longer-term implementation that would cover the more radical (and harder) solutions.
